In this video I finish the install on my Boost Gauge from Harbor Freight on the DSM. It gave me a little trouble as it is a 3-wire system instead of a typical 2 wire gauge and I tried to get lazy but it wouldn't let me... My Infinity 2003 i35 starting leaking from the steering pump
Isn't there a fill plug at the bottom?
I just need to get the se-r to get the extra gauges
hey man are you ok ? watched you a few years back and miss ur vids
Ok so I watched this video and then installed the same equipment on my 99 Protege DX. Overall, great video A+ However, there are a few things I want to mention for anyone else getting ready to do this, so here goes: 1. You do have to remove the console from the car and this can be no picnic! On the 1999 (and presumably 2000 since they are almost identical) there are two screws in the sides of the console that are blocked by the seats. I thought I would have to remove the seats to get these two screws out but I managed to find a ratchet tool with a Phillips screw attachment that saved the day but it is slow and frustrating to remove and install. Also, remove the shift knob before removing the console, much easier! 2. When installing the Megan shifter, sand the tube that the shifter fits down into to remove any gunk and then lightly coat with grease or oil so the O-rings will slide down easily, all the way to the bottom. I did notice that after installing everything and getting the slop out of the linkage (see #3 below) there is a small amount of slop in the ball socket of the shifter itself. I guess you get what you pay for but it isn't bad so ok, just expect that. I also greased the ball socket with red grease top and bottom. On the factory shifter there is a rubber boot that protects the bottom of the shifter ball but I saw no way to install that on the Megan. There is a rubber cover on top of the shifter ball to keep dirt and water out of the cabin but the bottom of the shift ball is exposed. Also the heat shield for the resonator might have to be bent a little to clear the longer throw of the Megan shifter. 3. The Exile bushings are great but you need to pay attention to how tight you make them. Too tight and you will likely wear them out quicker or at the least, they will have to wear in enough to loosen up. I tightened them until the had no play by wiggling them an then loosened then a fraction of a turn of the wrench to allow a small amount of play. Even so, the shifting feels too tight to me so i will give it a few days and if it stays that way I might loosen them a little more. My only "complaint": the hex head recess in the bolt head is really tight and it got a little frustrating trying to get the Allen wrench to go in when I could not see the head and had to do by feel. 4. The shifter boot does not fit well on the Megan and the shift handle is smaller than the plastic ring at the top of the boot so i found a stainless washer to go between the bottom of the shift knob and the top of the vinyl boot. I put the jamb nut on the shift rod under the top of the boot (inside the boot), then the washer, then the knob. this seems to work and covered up all the loose material at the top of the shifter boot. Overall, a great replacement and it looks like everything is going to work out great! Highly recommend but be aware, this may take a little longer than the video makes it look!
Nicely done and a good vid. Need to replace my shifter bushings on my MX6 and this was informative and relative. Any idea on how long the bolts are for the yokes..? Not sure what kind of condition my bolts are but could use a pair in case I need to replace them. The OEM Mazda part is discontinued.. Mine is a '94 MX6. ..Thanks bud.
Just order the 3 bolt set and you will have all you need. Pretty sure you will find none of the plastic bushings are remaining when you get it apart. Read my comment above.
@@kl0wnkiller912 I had ordered and received the OEM replacements which will be going in tomorrow if all goes well. I really wasnt up to drilling out the yokes etc for the hard brushed ones.. Maybe another time. Now I just want to get it up to parr...!
@@jatco84 You only have to drill out one of them The original bushings are plastic and don't last very long. You can even leave the one that you have to drill out and replace the other two and be better off but ok.
@@kl0wnkiller912 I hear ya...but since I got the OEMs I put them in yesterday...well at least up front at the trany side as those were shot. It turns out that the front and rear sizes are different, contrary to what Ive been told re the MX6. The original ones at the shiftrer were fortunately still in good condition..so some fresh grease and reinstall was done. They held up pretty good for a 30 year old car. So with new bushing at the trany, the shifting is so much better, smoother and more susinct.. Had to remover the center frame brace to get to the yoke..and that was a real pain in the ass. And fortunately, the rivit point of the yoke to the rod was intact..no play. So no need for a bolt there. So all is good for now. If the OEMs can last 30 years...the replacement will probably out live me..!! Thanks for your input. You have more room under there than on my 6...
@@jatco84 There are three axes with bushings and two sizes. The one that connects to the shift handle is shorter. Yeah I think the Protege is a bit simpler. So glad it worked out for you!
Como puedo comprar ese kit

I wish I can have a ser 😢 but at least ik about it not many ppl do I have base model still nice but ser just too lovable
They're still out there, but getting harder to find. I'm happy I had a little time with one
Hello, l'm from malaysia, which website can buy
Thank you for the info. Short shift here we come.
Trying to bring my protege5 back to life
Do it! They're good cars, underrated for sure
Awesome
That truck is a OBD2 truck! Which means all the emissions shit has to work or you will get an annoying check engine light 😂.
Link?
Hello, i have a 1994 protégé would this work with the exile bushings? It looks exactly the same i just want to ask before i buy them. And also i want to replace my gear shifter bar as well but i dont know which one i can buy.
This actually helps a lot I'm working on my Altima just put the engine back in and trying to figure out how to get those two lines connected in the back!
You have the link for the brakes?
Great video. Will this fit an 03 as well?
Good vid. These 3.5's are a pita, to work on, and own. Replace your pre-cats, and always check the oil. They love to eat oil, or send it shooting into your spark plug tubes. (Poor valve cover design, by Nissan)
I would get a new sensor
Awesome tutorial brotha.
Thanks for the helpful video. The gauge in my se-r started jumping from 0 (accompanied by oil warning light) to maxed out when rpms were up past idle. I'm really hoping it's the sending unit 🤞. Also I noticed your car makes the same engine whine/purrr as mine. I'm worried it's my timing chain tensioner.
My ser some times the oil pressure light comes on but it been like that for about 2 years already so I don’t know what wrong with it
My power steering belt came off and ended up on the pully. I kept coming back to your video for help. Thank you!
Thank you! Great video. I own a 2006 SE R. The power steering belt slipped off while I was driving on the highway. Your video helped me out a lot
My P5 pops out from 3rd gear itself, but if I keep my hand on it - it does not. What do you think, is the transmission and engine mounts could be an issue? Oil I did change already, it's much smoother shift, but again it pops out from the 3rd gear only itself... Thanks ✌️
I have zero experience with transmission internals, you could try searching on transmission syncro issues since it's just a single gear doing it.
What i learned in this video is when changing the hose you Might as well change the powersterring pump as well
Yeah it's a good amount of work to get to, and hard to pinpoint the leak, so I changed out as much as I could
I’m in tx also. I’m looking for a mechanic for my ser.
Bro una pregunta y si tenes los cambios cortos con esa palanca
Short throw
This Altima is the worst to work on, no room and u got to disassemble the whole car just to change something out lol the engineering sucks
Ha yeah it's tough. But as I've owned more vehicles, I find they all have things that make certain jobs difficult.
Great stuff man, I'll be ordering these for my Protege5 and will put them in my build series videos as well. Thanks man, great content!
Thanks man, I appreciate the feedback.
@@SparkPlugProjects for sure! It did help me, I just couldn't get the front two replaced since they're rusted in place hahaha.
How had this held up
I sold the car, but it held solid for several months. You could always just spend another dollar and redo the bushings!
What’s a block off plate?
I like the idea of the plastic pop bottle fix. I also like copper bushings that will last longer. So I did a search and the only "copper" bushings are BRASS and are $200 for a full set on eBay. Not $15! I may take the plunge & spend the $200 as the brass bushings look like they will last for a good long time. I guess you could find better deals 4 years ago!
100% times have changed. Dude for a dollar just try it out, You'll be surprised.
could you drop the link to the intake here?
Sorry it was a while back. I got it from eBay though.
Power tools will help
Will that short shifter work on my 2003 mazda protege???
You need to use dye and a black light at night so you can find your leak
Nice!
I came here to see how to remove my 1g steering wheel... you skipped right over that 🤦♂️
I started with an aftrermarket wheel so it was a little different. Stock 1g remove the horn button and you will have a 17mm or 19mm main nut underneath. Remove that and yank the wheel off. It may be pretty stuck though. I ended up going back to stock.
This is absolute garbage. Half the shit you needed to show and talk about you didn’t
Did you get the 1pc, 2pc, or 3pc set?
3pc
That copper color looks sick. My car is beige, what color fits? lol
In my opinion Beige is a pretty neutral color so you could accent it with almost anything. I'd probably go with black or darker red/blue
Was your oil light coming on and going off? Mine will come on and I'll look at the gauge to see 0. A few minutes later it will go off and the gauge will be at 120. Have also noticed the MPG gauge not working properly either. Will be coasting on the interstate and it should be around 35 mpg, but it's at 5 mpg. Same as the other gauge, a few minutes later, it will be working. Figured it has to be a sensor. But at the same time, wonder if the gauge cluster itself is starting to go out.
Sorry man I can't recall if the oil light was on, I just remember the gauge reading zero all the time.
Is this the for automatic or manual transmission????
Manual
But why replacing the whole line instead just replace the rings?
You do you
I know you said it was a megan shifter but I have trouble finding it do you have something so I can narrow down the search?
I bought a 2005 Altima SE-R for $1,000 The owner didn't know it was an SER he thought it was a normal Altima.. So I got a good deal there.. Paint was horrible. Bank bumps was trashed. Front bumper gas a golfball sized hole. Purchased an SE bumper for the rear and fixed the front bumper.. I painted it put new headlights, Taillights. All with LED bulbs it still needs it's work I'm planning to purchase an engine for it since it's knocking. I really get pissed off at the car and want to sell it You have given me inspiration to keep going and finish fixing it! Im planning to put the same engine on it since I just want it to plug n play, Any recommendations to buy a low milage engine
Great story man, project cars can be frustrating and hard to stay with. I have bought and sold my share for sure. But it is also rewarding to hang on to them. I'm not sure where you could get a new engine but I think some folks are having luck swapping in an HR motor instead.
